Cladich Pavilions, a stylish place to stay at Aldgate, is among the
major 2002 regional Award winners in the Adelaide Hills.
The
tourism development, among towering stringy-barks offers some
of the best accommodation in the state.
Its operations, Andrew and Helen McArthur, won the tourism
award for deluxe accommodation in the SA Great, Adelaide
Hills Tourism and Adelaide Hill Regional Development awards last night.

Contemporary Cladich Pavilions, stunning architecturally designed
apartments in timber, glass and colourbond steel on stilts
set among the string-barks in Aldgate. Polished wooden floors,
smart kitchens and bathrooms and crisp white linen and towels
make this a truly stylish retreat, while the human touch is provided
via fresh flowers from the owners gardens, sumptuous breakfast
provisions and home made caramels.

A B & B with a difference. Three private, architect-designed timber "pavilions"
are set in a tranquil bushland setting with towering stringybark
eucalypts and abundant birdlife. Each self-contained pavilion
sleeps two and comes with fluffy bathrobes, Jurlique grooming
products and homemade caramels.

With numerous, quaint country cottages dotted around the hills, Cladich
Pavilions looks like a fish out of water. But it is Cladich's
simplicity and individuality which give this modern bed and breakfast
accommodation
a distinctly ski-lodge feel minus the expense and crowds.
The
three self-contained apartments are made from corrugated iron
and blackbutt timber. They are minimally but stylishly decorated
with all the mod-cons and some nice touches such as local skincare
products from Jurlique and owner Helen's homemade caramels.
Chintz-free zone

Best new beds: With an unrelenting emphasis on the old world (and sometimes
twee) among Hills bed and breakfast operators, the opening of
Cladich Pavilions in Aldgate last year brought a whiff of contemporary
to the accommodation scene.
Helen and Andrew MacArthur have built three adjoining
iron-clad, architect-designed pavilions on the bush slope above
their house. And pavilion is the perfect term for these suites
with their large windows, Tasmanian oak floors, blond furniture,
white linens
and cool stone-coloured bathrooms stocked with Jurlique products.
Huge gums march down the hill, birds are everywhere and the
owners' immaculate garden below lends a cool green note.
Each suite
is entirely
of-the-minute Oz (not a chintz cushion nor needlepoint sampler
to be spied) and features modern kitchen, full breakfast
provisions (including local berries, yogurts and chocs) and
plenty of space to comfortably unwind (with television, CD, VCR
and the latest
magazines).

What a find! Apt description for Cladich Pavilions - luxurious
new accommodation in the spacious grounds of the owners' lovely
sandstone house
at Aldgate in the Adelaide Hills. Helen and Andrew
MacArthur employed an architect to design their three pavilions,
nestled
among stringy-bark eucalypts. The interior
appointments are quite splendid, with spacious living areas,
plenty of natural light, the very best of contemporary furniture
with a few choice pieces of antique Australiana and Tasmanian
Oak floors throughout.
On our stay the bedroom, its queen-sized bed fitted with
crisp white linen, looked out onto bushland where colourful native
birds gathered each morning, our bathroom had thick white towels
and robes and local Jurlique herbal products. A sleek modern
kitchen and a fridge packed with breakfast provisions.
Helen sold her own gourmet foods for years at the Adelaide
Markets, and knows how to spoil her guests with delicious
bread, homemade cookies and melt-in-the-mouth caramels. Reverse
cycle air-conditioning
kept us comfortable and a full swag of visual and audio gadgets
entertained us.
Cladich Pavilions is only 5 minutes from busy Stirling and close
to vineyards, restaurants, golf courses and national parks.
